Ruth Magowan (MSc, BSc (Hons), RGN, RSCN, PGCE) is Head of the Division of Nursing and Paramedic Science at Queen ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵt University.

I have worked as a lecturer at Queen ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵt since 1997 teaching mainly on the Nursing undergraduate degree programme on a wide variety of modules, but also MSc programmes. I also work at the Borders General Hospital as a Paediatric Endocrine Specialist Nurse. It is important to me to continue to practice as a nurse whilst working as a nurse lecturer. I have a background in both paediatric and general nursing including neonatal care, neurology, diabetic care and endocrinology.

My areas of interest and research are currently person- centred care in paediatric settings, teaching and learning in Higher education especially online learning and the use of new technologies, paediatric endocrinology and healthcare in developing countries. I am part of a group that has links with a Hospital in Zambia and have been responsible for the delivery of educational programme to reduce maternal mortality and emergency paediatric care.
