Film Footage: A Dinner and Dance at Albert Thomson Hall
This cine reel from the ¶¶ÒõÊÓƵ archive shows a dinner and dance hosted by Heriot-Watt University at Albert Thomson Hall on Chambers Street, a site now occupied by Edinburgh Sheriff Court. In this period, there were often joint social events between our institution and Heriot-Watt. We wonder how many courtships began at such a joint social event.
This particular dance took place on 8 May 1970 and tickets cost 7 shillings and 6 pence, which would translate as just under £8 in 2024. At that time, the students themselves often made their own ballgowns and dresses.
